LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 Review
Just when I thought I escaped from the Pirates of the Caribbean universe (I went on a Pirates of the Caribbean movie marathon two weeks back), this LEGO set came along and sucked me back in. I finished assembling the set a few days ago, so I thought I’d do a real quick LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 review write-up for those who are interested in getting it. The LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge is big, addictive and packs all the riches you’d expect from a top-of-the-line LEGO set. Its pieces and overall building - systems are quite complex – at a level I thought was extremely difficult at first – but the set turned out to be supremely easy to put together and highly enjoyable. I started out slow because I was overwhelmed with the number of stuff included in the box.
In the beginning, I didn’t enjoy the assembling process, but after a while I really got into it. Now, I’m just going to say it right out in this LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 review that the set is easily one of the best LEGO sets I’ve ever put together. It alone has made me a slave to LEGO sets based on the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise (the Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl 4184 LEGO set is my next victim!), and it has sucked away many, many hours of my time over the past few days. Alright, alright I’m exaggerating. It wasn’t that many hours. It took me about 6 hours or so to finish it up over 6 days. It could’ve been quicker but, I’m a pretty busy working adult, thus I could only allot about an hour a day to work on it.
Anyway, this LEGO set requires just a bit of thought and planning (the set’s double instruction manual, as well as a generous amount of patience, are a must), but the payoff and reward of seeing the Queen Anne's Revenge pirate ship in all its glory in a crystal clear collector’s display case – with 7 well crafted LEGO-style figurines that are straight from the Pirates of the Caribbean universe – is a feeling I simply can’t explain in this LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 review. The look and the size of the ship are fantastic (I wish it was just a tad bit bigger so that it would really fill up my display case) and the extra bells and whistles that go along with the ship are just phenomenal. I do have some complaints, but they are admittedly very minor. For one, the space on the ship’s deck seems limited and it can get cluttered rather easily with the figurines in place, plus cannons and whatnot (the deck should’ve been wider with additional cannons and even more figurines, etc.). Not a big deal – that’s what deluxe editions and re-releases are for.
You see, there’s a rumor circulating around that LEGO is planning on releasing a deluxe version of this splendidly crafted set. Remember, you read about this sensational info first in this LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 review! I’m just joking folks. If they actually launch a deluxe edition with a bigger deck, additional figurines, etc, I wouldn’t bother forking the dough for it anyway. I’m not that nuts nor am I loaded with dough for that matter. The second complaint has to do with the fact that the masts and sails were pretty annoying to assemble. Also, the masts don’t hold up all that well compared to the rest of the ship. They tend to become loose quite easily. The Queen Anne's Revenge is a totally kick butt pirate ship so it shouldn’t have flakey masts for crying out loud.
Otherwise, as long as you’ve got some patience as well as some free time (as I said, took me 6 hours to complete), you’re going to love this LEGO set. Just be warned – it contains 1097 pieces! You know, I really love the fact that LEGO always presents their movie-themed sets in a beautiful fashion: plenty of detailing, rich colors and spot-on figurines. You almost can’t help but enjoy playing them even if you’re already a full-grown adult. The Queen Anne's Revenge is no exception. This very detailed set had me hooked after the first 10 minutes of assembling. The best part of the process is putting together the captain’s quarters plus the bone detailing and placing the figurines. Yes, doing the masts and sails were tiresome at times, but overall this is an experience LEGO building fans shouldn’t miss.
Additional Info I'd like To Add to This LEGO Queen Anne's Revenge 4195 Review
A friend of mine owns the Pirates of the Caribbean Black Pearl 4184 and though he enjoyed putting together the set, he said he found it hard to come back after taking a long break. He took months to finish assembling the set because he stopped halfway through, didn’t work on it for a week, and when he tried to come back to it, he felt like he hadn’t really gotten that far. He ended up finishing it months later. So my advice to you folks out there is that if you do get the Queen Anne's Revenge, you might want to work on it bit-by-bit each day. Try not to stop for several consecutive days because when you come back to work on it, you might not feel like you’re up to it – just like my friend, and that really sucks the pure joy out of building LEGO sets.
