Little Tikes Pirate Ship Toddler Bed Reviews
There’s no question that this pirate ship toddler bed packs some of the BEST features ever seen in a…well, bed for toddlers! It’s a very cute looking bed and its quality of design is flawless. It practically looks like a mini top-of-the-line playhouse from a distance. But here’s the rub: The bed comes in plenty of pieces so the assembling process was actually quite a hassle. I think they were like close to 30, maybe more parts that I had to put together – from the headboard to the cannon covers, to the mast support and the crow’s nest together with 3 different posts, plus screws galore…WHEW! I checked out other Little Tikes pirate ship toddler bed reviews on the internet before I made my purchase and others seemed to have a ball putting together the bed. I don’t know, maybe I’m just a lazy bum parent, but hey, I did managed to put the darn thing together! By the way, you might want to try the link below to read what other parents had to say about the pirate ship bed for toddlers.

That gripe aside, this pirate theme bed is real solid and my son loves it a LOT! He can’t seem to stay away from it. He’s always playing on the bed and messing around with the cannon and the helm steering wheel behind it - both are really cool by the way. The helm wheel can be turned and the cannon can fire five deadly flaming projectiles per second – I’m just kidding, but the wheel does turn though. Also, there are 3 additional large toy cannons on the side of the bed. These are actually built into the bed’s body so your child can’t really play with them. The main cannon and the wheel are attached to a lid which acts as the base for the two objects. The lid can be opened to uncover a storage space for your child to store his belongings like toys, board games, boxes of Lego sets etc. It’s a great feature – my son and I really like it.

More Storage Space and More Lights
With the Little Tikes pirate ship toddler bed, you don’t have to worry about storage space for your child to keep his or her stuff – there are two more spots for storing even more toys, and can fit in a few children’s books too along with a clock. The additional storage spots are in the form of cubby holes built into the headboard.
Now, what’s really cool is the pirate ship bed has 3 different lights you can turn on/off manually or they switch off automatically. There’s one large reading lamp plus 2 smaller reading lanterns.
The large one turns off automatically after approximately 10 minutes, while the lanterns after a couple minutes or so. Using these lights take quite a few AAA batteries – 9 in total (each lantern requires 3 and another 3 for the big reading lamp), but they’re essential if your child wants to do a little reading or you want to read him or her a story before bedtime. As usual, no batteries included by the manufacturer – bummer!
The mast comes with a fabric sail plus crow’s nest and these are well done, but we don’t really fancy the graphic on the mast - a golden anchor under the Little Tikes brand logo. I wish I could fix that – just the anchor because it just doesn’t look right to me. It’s a pirate ship theme toddler bed after all, so an image of some sort of cutesy designed skull and crossbones on the sail would’ve been better. My son concurs with me. The bed is very, very durable - a point shared by many Little Tikes pirate ship toddler bed reviews I read online. However, do note that this bed does have a weight limit which is 50 pounds. It is made for children who weigh 50 lbs. or less and the age range is 15 months to 5 years old.
Info Regarding Mattress Size
First of all, a crib mattress isn’t included – obviously. Now, the bed can accommodate standard-size crib mattress plus crib springs with the following approximate dimensions:
Length: 52 inches
Width: 28 inches
Height: 6 inches
Okay then, all thing considered, this bed is excellent and totally worth the money. Highly recommended, but do check out several more customer reviews as well before springing the cash.
